Senior Photography Prep Tips

Here are some suggestions to make your session run smoothly

COMMUNICATION

When it comes to senior portraits, we want your images to showcase you! Don't be shy. We welcome your ideas and encourage you to let us know what it is that makes you...you!

FRIENDS

It is always a great idea to bring along your BFF. It will help you be more comfortable and a great resource to bring out your personality.

PROPS

Senior pictures are meant to capture who you are. If you played tennis in high school or college then a tennis racquet is a must for your session.

HERITAGE & TRADITION

Make sure to let us know if there is something about your heritage that you want to convey in your images.

SPECIAL EFFECTS

Feel free to bring along any special effects you would like to use. Confetti, glitter, paint? Sure! Things could get messy!

COLOR CHOICES

Bright colors, especially the colors red, yellow, and orange, can distract from the environment in most shots, particularly if those shots are outdoors. Students should instead stick to grays, whites, and other solid tones when dressing for senior pictures. All colors have different effects, and they should be considered.

FRAMES ONLY

One of the biggest challenges in photography is keeping the glare and flash out of the glasses. If you are able to, remove the lenses from your glasses.

VERSATILE CLOTHING

Yes that dress looks great when you are standing. But what about when you are sitting? Make sure the clothing you wear looks good in a variety of poses you may be in during your session.

DRESS STRAPS

Avoid dress straps and any under garments showing.

DIFFERENT STYLES

We all have different aspects to our personality. Consider several outfits that highlight different things about you. You might consider one formal wear outfit, one fun outfit, and one casual or sports-themed outfit.

KEEP IT CLASSIC

T-shirts, in general, are to be avoided unless they are a huge part of your style or personality. Keep in mind, however, that senior pictures are keepsakes. You will want to ensure your graphic t-shirt will be just as relevant a decade from now.

DRESS FOR THE SEASON

You should be sure to consider the season before picking your outfits. A summer outfit in a fall photoshoot will look out of place. Also, pick outfits that are more timeless and less about what’s in style at the moment.

NO TAN LINES

Nothing ruins a shot like some unsightly tan lines creeping into the photo.

CONSIDER THE TIME

Your photo session will have a time limit. This will include clothing changes. You’ll want to make sure you are aware of this and that you plan your outfits accordingly. Girls should wear makeup that fits with all the outfits and consider wearing a tank top to speed up changing times.

ITEMS TO BRING

A one hour photo session can get stressful if you are not prepared. Make sure and think about what you hope to accomplish during your session and discuss with us beforehand. We are always available to discuss it with you. Jot down any ideas you have and also look online and find some images that have poses you like and want to use. Make sure and send those to us ahead of time. Together we will make this a memorable time we hope you will cherish forever.
